2014 Political Cartoons – NJ Gov. Chris Christie Bridgegate Scandal

bridgegate 2014

Just when politics was starting to get a little boring…I mean, how many more times could one watch Wolf Blitzer refresh the Obamacare.gov homepage? Chris Christie has come to fill that gap, as he often does, in times of lull in politics. Starting back in September of 2013, several lanes were closed on the George Washington Bridge, in process causing several days of traffic jams and delay. According to recently surfaced emails between top Christie administration staffers, these lane closures seem to be some form of political retribution. The principal theory is that the closures were to punish Fort Lee Mayor, Mark Sokolich, for not endorsing Christie’s re-election bid. However, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow has proposed that the lane closures and resulting traffic snarl was in retribution to Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D).

Either way, there is likely much more to come from this scandal. As more documents are released, and investigations continue, more details are likely to emerge. The main question of many people’s minds is: How will this impact a potential Chris Christie 2016 presidential bid?  Bridgeghazi?
