The Obama administration came out of left field last week announcing a  mandate requiring health insurers to offer birth control coverage, including religious organizations like churches and hospitals that may be opposed to such coverage. Many Catholics are divided over the issue; even after Obama recently compromised with healthcare providers to please concerns from various religious groups.

The compromise involves letting healthcare providers reach out to employees and provide free contraception coverage. This pleases the healthcare industry because preventative treatment could potentially save them money in the long run. Some Catholic Bishops are not impressed with this deal. Meanwhile, some Catholic groups praise the deal and accept it as a good one.

John Boehner, never missing an opportunity to criticize the policies of President Obama, is also not impressed by the compromise:

If the president does not reverse the [...] attack on religious freedom, then the Congress, acting on behalf of the American people and the Constitution we are sworn to uphold and defend, must. This attack by the federal government on religious freedom in our country must not stand and will not stand.

Chris Matthews from MSNBC’s Hardball sees it as a strategic win/win for the Obama administration:
